What does VA Permanent and Total (P&T) mean?
P&T means the VA has determined your disabilities are both total (100% schedular or 100% via TDIU) and permanent (not expected to improve). Once granted, your rating cannot be reduced in future re-examinations.
Can I qualify for P&T with a TDIU rating instead of 100% schedular?
Yes. Veterans rated 100% through Total Disability Individual Unemployability (TDIU) are eligible for P&T if the permanence criteria are also met, no scheduled re-exams, age 55 or older, or static conditions.
How do I know if my rating is already marked permanent?
Check your VA decision letter or your disability rating page on VA.gov. Look for the words "permanent and total" or "no future exam" in the language. If it is not explicitly stated, your rating may still be subject to future re-evaluation.
How do I request P&T status from the VA?
